- ║ HOW TO CENTER THE DATE AND STREET ADDRESS ║

- For this Lesson you will need to retrieve the
- David file from the WordPerfect directory.
- ▀ Go to WordPerfect Program.
- ▀ Press <F5> key twice.
- ▀ Locate David file.
- ▀ Press 1 to retrieve file to screen.

- √√√ THE CENTERING COMMAND <(Shift+F6>
- ▀ Move the flashing cursor to the left margin under the M
- of May.
- ▀ Press and hold down the <Shift> key, then press
- the <F6> key.
- ▀ The first line (date) will move to the right and will be
- centered on the page.

- Repeat by putting the cursor under the "1" of 123.
- Then press the <Shift+F6 key to center.
-
- Repeat by putting the cursor under the P in Plant.
- Then press the <Shift+F6 key.
- All three lines are now centered on the page.
- (Clear screen with <F7>, then N N for next exercise).

- √√√ HOW TO CENTER A TITLE <Shift+F6>
- The Shift+F6 combination key is used for centering text.
- The First Method is to:
- ▀ Place cursor at the left margin.
- ▀ Then Press <Shift+F6> key.
- ▀ The cursor will move to the center of the page.
- ▀ Now anything you type on that line will be centered.

- If you wish to place text at some position other than center,
- place cursor at that location and Press <Shift+F6>.
- This will now be the new center for line you type.

- SECOND METHOD
- You can use the block method <Alt+F4> first.
- Then center the whole block with the Centering command
- <Shift+F6>.

- Type this four line Title at the left margin.
- Press <Enter> after each line, like this:

- By
- J.C. Keller

- ▀ Place cursor under the first letter of the first line.
- ▀ Press the <Alt+F4> key to highlight "Block On".
- ▀ Press last letter of the block (r).
- ▀ The block is quickly highlighted.

- ▀ Now press the <Shift+F6> centering key.
- ▀ The computer asks if you want to center; answer Y for yes.
- ▀ The four lines are centered.

- √√√ TO UNCENTER
- You must use the Reveal Code <Alt+F3> to delete the C
- that stands for centering using the Reveal Codes <Alt+F3>.

- To delete the "C" code for centering, do this:
- ▀ Press <Alt+F3>. The Reveal Code bar appears on the screen.
- Before the first letter of the words you want to remove the
- centering you will see this C.
- Move the cursor over the C. With the delete key erase the C.

- CENTERING A PARAGRAPH <Alt+F4>, then <Shift+F6>
- Using the DAVID file move the cursor and locate it:
- ▀ Under the M in Mr.
- ▀ Now Press and hold down the <Alt> key and press <F4> key.
- ▀ On the bottom of the screen will appear
- the"Block On" signal.

- ▀ Using the <Down Arrow>, press four times to highlight the
- four lines of Mr. Henry.
- ▀ Press the Center key <Shift+F6>.

- The computer asks Do you want to center?
- ▀ (Note the bottom left of screen for information.)
- ▀ You answer Y for yes. The paragraph jumps to the
- center of the page.

- You have centered the paragraph.

- √√√ MOVING A SENTENCE
- Suppose you want to move a sentence from the beginning
- of a paragraph to the end of a paragraph you would first
- highlight using the Block command <Alt+F4>,
- then you would use the Moving command <Ctrl+F4>
- to move it to its new location.

- √√√ HOW TO BLOCK AND MOVE
- ▀ Place cursor in front of the first letter of the sentence.
- ▀ Press and hold down the <Alt> key, then press the <F4> key
- to turn on the " Block On" command
- ▀ Move cursor to right and "highlight" the whole sentence.

- ▀ Next is using the Moving command <Ctrl+F4>.
- ▀ Press the <Ctrl+F4> key . The "Move Block" appears on
- Screen.
- ▀ Press 1 for Block, then 1 again for Move.
- ▀ Highlighting will disappear.

- Important: Don't touch the Enter Key. (Not yet!!)
- You must first move cursor to the new position for the
- sentence. Once the cursor is in the correct spot
- then press the <Enter> key and the sentence will fill
- in the new location.
- That's all there is to it!!

- √√√ MOVING A PARAGRAPH
- The procedure is the same for moving a word or a page.
- Let's use the DAVID file and highlight the first paragraph.
- Then using the <Ctrl+F4> move the paragraph below the second
- paragraph. To move the paragraph do this:

- ▀ Position the cursor under the T of Thank
- ▀ Move the <Down Arrow> four (4) times.
- ▀ This will highlight the four lines of text.
- ▀ To move the paragraph, do the following:
- ▀ Press and hold down the <Alt> key.
- ▀ Now press the <F4> key and release both keys.
- ▀
- The bottom of the screen will ask if you want to move a Block?
- ▀ You answer yes by striking the 1 key.
- The computer now asks if you to move or just a copy of the Block.
- ▀ Since you are relocating the paragraph you press 1.
- ▀ The paragraph disappears from the screen.

- You must now place the cursor at the new location which will be
- beneath the "H" in how.
- ▀ Place cursor in new location. TWO lines below H in
- how.
- ▀ Now press the <Enter> key. The new paragraph will
- appear on the screen.
- ▀ If you need a space between the two paragraphs press
- the <Enter> key to move new paragraph down one space.

- √√√ SIZE AND STYLE OF TYPE (CHARACTERS)
- You are able to select from WordPerfect the size of type
- and the style (appearance) of type for example:
- ▀ Large letter type, and italic style lettering.

- √√√ SIZE OF TYPE
- The average size type that appears books is usually
- 10 or 12 point type. The type that you are now reading
- is 12 point type (There are 72 points to an inch).
- Therefore, 12 point type is equal to 1/6 of an inch high.

- √√√ APPEARANCE OF TYPE (STYLE)
- The Attribute command allows you to select different
- styles for the letters. For example, you can make letters
- bold, italic, with shadow, and even in small caps.

- You can combine size and style, for example:
- large letters and bold style.
- Or, small letters in italic style.

- √√√ RETRIEVE THE DAVID FILE
- To try some of these Attributes we'll retrieve the David file,

- √√√ SIZE OF TYPE
- Place cursor under the M of May on the first line.
- ▀ Press the <Alt+F4> key to activate the Block command.
- ▀ Use <Right Arrow> and move cursor one space past the Zero.
- The line will appear in reverse video (reverse colors).

- ▀ Press the <Ctrl+F8> key. (Attribute key)
- ▀ Press 1 for size.
- ▀ Press 5 for large letters.
- ▀ Reverse video changes to another color (green on black).

- √√√ STYLE OF TYPE
- We'll now change the style of the large type to Italic.
- ▀ To do this:
- ▀ Move cursor under the M of May.
- ▀ Press <Alt+F4> the Block command. ("Block On" is Blinking
- at bottom left of screen).

- ▀ Press <Ctrl+F8>.
- ▀ Press 2 (for appearance).
- ▀ Press 1 (for Bold). (Color of video turns orange).
- ▀ The first line now has Large-Bold letters.

- √√√ TO VIEW THE CHANGES.
- ▀ Use the View Document Command:
- ▀ Press <Shift+F7>, then press 6.
- ▀ You'll see the first line has large and bold letters.

- To return to document screen, Press <F7> key.
- Any combination of these Attributes (style), size of typeface ,
- and color can be combined to suit your taste.
